Mark Velarde, Managing Director & Chief Operating Officer

Mark co-founded A&M Capital Real Estate in 2009 and serves as its Chief Operating Officer. 

He is an A&M veteran with a rare combination of corporate turnaround, restructuring, and value improvement, commercial real estate restructuring, and private equity real estate investment and asset management experience:

• Mark has worked in a principal or investing capacity on over $1.9 billion of commercial real estate assets and in a key advisory role on over $4 billion of CRE assets;

• Prior to originally joining A&M in 1992, Mark had a 10-year career in institutional real estate, working primarily in a principal capacity on behalf of public and private U.S. pension funds, trusts, and a variety of international investors, involving all major asset classes across multiple market cycles;

• Between 1992 and 2008, Mark was involved in 21 corporate restructuring, turnaround, and performance improvement engagements at both public reporting and private companies in a wide variety of industry sectors on behalf of debtor, creditor, and private equity clients – including filling interim senior management roles of Co-Chairman, CEO, COO, CFO, and/or Chief Restructuring Officer at 13 of those companies.

Mark received a BA from the University of California, Los Angeles, and an MBA (with a dual concentration in finance and real estate) from the University of California, Los Angeles.  Mark is a member of the Urban Land Institute.
